The Story Behind the Music
I live not far from a small countryside airfield. I often see light aircraft taking off quietly, slowly disappearing over the hills. At certain times of the year, I also hear wild geese flying overhead on their long migration. These simple moments carry a quiet beauty, something peaceful and grounding.
The story of Christian Moullec, the man who flies alongside migrating birds to guide them, left a strong impression on me. The film Spread Your Wings brought that emotion back to the surface. And further back in time, Porco Rosso deeply shaped my imagination — a solitary plane above the sea, somewhere between sky, melancholy, and freedom. Beyond the Horizon was born from this blend of memories, sounds, and images.
Step Into the Soundscape
It begins on a small airstrip surrounded by open fields. The engine hums gently as the plane lifts off the ground. Below, forests, rivers, and rolling hills unfold in soft light. Then come the clouds, a diffuse brightness, the hush of altitude. A flock of wild geese joins the ascent, gliding through the sky as if guiding the way.
Higher still, the horizon opens wide. The sky becomes immense, almost unreal. Stars appear in the distance, a moment suspended between earth and cosmos. But even this flight has an end.
The descent begins, smooth and slow. The aircraft glides over a misty landscape, returning to the ground. What remains is a quiet feeling, like waking from a dream, calm and just a little changed.
